Hoosier BMW

MARTINSVILLE - SEPTEMBER 15, 2019 - The Hoosier Chapter of the BMW Car Club did its first Tire Rack Street Survival Teen Driving School (TRSS) in several years, at Martinsville High School in Martinsville, Indiana, yesterday.

Thirty students, 15 to 19 years old learned the finer points of car control through exercises designed to improve emergency handling skills. It is really great to see the club getting back into what may be the most important thing we do, helping to save lives on the highway.

The club wants to thank Dreyer & Reinbold Auto Group and D&R’s new Allstate Insurance Agency, for the generous sponsorship of this event. More than 35 volunteers gave up their Sunday to help out with the program. We especially want to thank John Lillywhite, Chris Dunlap, Step and Andy Simonson, and Scott Damer, for doing the really heavy lifting to get this event off the ground.

The demand for more TRSS schools in the area is huge, there were more than 20 kids on our wait list. If you want to get involved with future TRSS schools, please let one of the board members know. We can’t do them without your help.

Putnam Park Road Course5251 S County Road 550 EGreencastle, IN46135-7517 Map

savethedate.windycitybmw.com

For the first time in many years Windy City BMW will be heading south to the challenging curves of Putnam Park Road Course near beautiful Greencastle, Indiana.

If you’ve been there before you’ll know what to expect and are no doubt scheduling the third weekend in September now (September 20-22).

If you’ve never been there, Putnam is a roughly 1.8 mile 10 turn road course, smooth, fast and varied, one of the nicest facilities in the Midwest.

Plan to join us for an exhilarating time, and probably one of the last reliably decent weekends in the Midwest driving season.

FAQ's:

1. Helmets and other safety equipment: I pulled down the info regarding helmets. Is there any other safety equipment we need to know?

* We can setup a special class just for your club members. Car setup won't matter and tech will just be the safety items listed above.*ar really just needs to be street legal (battery tied down, seat belt, good brake and throttle response, all the lug nuts on car...)

2. As we would like to run as a club, not in any of the actual SCCA classes, is there anything we should know as it relates to car set-ups,tech inspection, etc?

* We can setup a special class just for your club members. Car setup won't matter and tech will just be the safety items listed above.

3. Are convertibles allowed?

* Yes. If there is a race harness though there needs to be a roll bar. No roll bar and regular belts is perfectly acceptable.

4. How many runs will the club be allowed to make?

*We normally don't know exactly how many runs until the event gets going, but on average it is 5 runs.

5. How will our club members be integrated into course workers?

* We will hand them out worker assignments right before their worker session. If you have members that have physical ailments preventing running please let us know and we can accommodate that. Most will probably be cone shaggers, but we may also use them in timing and scoring or other spots as well.
